How to get from the Airport to the City Istanbul's main airport is Atatürk International Airport in Yeşilköy, 20-25 kilometers to the west of central Istanbul (Taksim Square) and 20 kilometers to main conference hotel (Ortaköy Princess Hotel). Taxis are the easiest way to get into town and are available outside the Atatürk International Airport. The journey to city center takes about 45 minutes. All of the taxis are yellow and have digital meters and must run them. The cost of getting from the airport to Taksim Square (city centre) is about TL 40 daytime (there is no surcharge after midnight). Taxis do not accept credit cards. If you cross either of the two bridges over Bosphorus by taxi, there is a 3 TL toll surcharge that will be added to your fare. It is not necessary to tip taxi drivers. You can also take the HAVAS shuttle bus that goes directly from the airport to Taksim Square. They run beginning at 4:00 am at every half hour until 9:00 am, and every 15 minutes between 9:00 am and 01:00 am. A one-way ticket is 10 TL. There is another international airport, Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Kurtköy on the Asian side as well. It is popular with low-cost European airlines, but is not very convenient to get to and from. HAVAS shuttle buses are available to get to Taksim Square on the European side of the city.  Tips on Travel Visa Turkey demands an official entry visa from citizens of quite a few countries. Most shops and restaurants accept credit cards. Alternatively you can get cash in TL at the many ATMs by simply using your home bank card or credit card. ATMs which accept international credit or bank cards can be found in almost every corner - a strip of logos is usually displayed above the ATM. Almost all ATMs have a language key to enable you to read the instructions in English. Electricity The electrical current in Turkey is 220 volts, 50 cycles alternating current (AC); wall outlets take Continental-type plugs, with two or three round prongs. VAT The basic rate for value-added tax, here called KDV, is 18%. Value-added tax is nearly always included in listed prices. Some shops are authorized to refund the tax to foreign shoppers.
