He is an applied micro theorist and his main research has been in political economy, development economics and industrial organization. His specific interests (and current research) are in electoral systems and how they influence political competition, coalition formation, the role of asymmetric information in ‘political failure’ and various issues in crime policy. He is currently collaborating with Kalyan Chatterjee of Penn State and Mandar Oak of William’s College on his research in crime policy and with Mandar Oak on political competition and the role of asymmetric information in political failure. He has in the past worked on policy issues related to the sale of human organs (with Sudip Gupta of the University of Wisconsin Madison) and suggested legislative changes based on economic principles in policy papers for Project LARGE, UNDP.   Primary Research Focus: Electoral system, political coalitions, leadership quality, crime, applications of incomplete contracts   JEL Areas: J : Labor and Demographic Economics C : Mathematical and Quantitative Methods
