Biographical Sketch:
Zixuan Liao is an undergraduate student at the School of Economics and Management, Zhaoqing University, China. He works on the economics of retail payment systems, focusing on authorised push payment (APP) fraud. His current research uses firm-level scam data from the UK Payment Systems Regulator, merged with Companies House records, to identify what predicts a payment firm's exposure to receiving scam proceeds. He finds that exposure falls steeply with firm scale, while a firm's banking activity code adds no explanatory power once scale is controlled. He is also interested in how reimbursement rules allocate fraud costs between firms. |
