Jean-Louis Arcand Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva   Professor Jean-Louis Arcand CERDI-CNRS, Université d'Auvergne 65, boulevard François Mitterrand Clermont Ferrand, Puy de Dôme 63000 France   arcandjl@alum.mit.edu   http://www.cerdi.org/P_Perso/PP_Home.asp?IDUSER=arcand   Biographical Sketch: After a B.A. at Swarthmore College, an M.Phil. at Cambridge (UK), and my Ph.D. at MIT (the other Cambridge), I spent 6 years at the CRDE of the Université de Montréal, and 2 years commuting between Clermont Ferrand and Salvador da Bahia (Brazil), where I did research at the Instituto de Saude Coletiva (ISC) of the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA). Since 2000, I have been stable in Auvergne, although I spend a lot of time travelling and doing fieldwork, mainly (these days) in sub-Saharan Africa. Most of my recent research has been concerned with the applied microeconometrics of panel data, mainly involving agricultural households. But I have also been led astray into the terrible worlds of the empirics of economic growth, nutrition and civil war.
